Obafemi Awolowo stadium, Oke-ado, Ibadan is presently receiving the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria in terms of renovation.
Pensioners FM was on fact finding mission to the sports complex observe that the main football pitch is already dug, while full work is expected soon.
The old gymnasium has been given a facelift while some dilapidated structures are still begging for attention.
A trainer, Mr Abiodun Bamigboye, expressed displeasure over the manner the stadium has been abandoned for years.
Mr Bamigboye called on the Federal Ministry of sports to expedite action on the project to avoid turning it to an abandoned one.
“It is quite unfortunate it is obvious that the stadium is in a very sorry state and we urge the Federal Government to ensure that a more serious attention is paid to the stadium”
The stadium formerly known as Liberty Stadium was established in the late 50’s during the regime of the premier of western region of late chief Obafemi Awolowo.
