The Osun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said the reason behind the inauguration of its Special Female Squad is the protection of school children across the state.
The NSCDC Commandant General, Abubakar Audi disclosed that it was a proactive measure to guarantee the safety of children and restore the confidence of students, parents, teachers and the community in the country’s security architecture.
Represented by Adeyinka Fasiu, the Assistant Commandant General, Zone J Command, Audi stated that the corps would continue to collaborate with sister agencies to guarantee security for the socio-economic development of the country.
He said the special female squad is a child of necessity born out of the need to effectively curtail the recent upsurge of insecurity occasioned by armed banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency, adding that there was a need to effectively implement the Government’s proposed Safe School Initiative.
“You will agree with me, that our country is currently facing unprecedented security challenges and unique problems that demand unique solutions. These, alongside others, are the reasons for the establishment of the Special Female Squad which is being commissioned today”.
Earlier in her address, Kafayat Oyetola, the wife of the Osun State Governor stated that the squad would serve as a deterrent to attacks on schools by armed terrorists.
In her words, “The squad will also help to arrest the frightening wave of drugs and substance use and abuse in the schools.
“This is in addition to the set goal at deterring attacks on our schools by armed terrorists.”
