Ahead of the 2023 General Election, Nigerians in Diaspora have lamented what they referred to as inability to vote in Nigeria elections.
President, Association of Yorubas in Diaspora, AYIDSA, Dr. Olusola Agbeniyi stated this while speaking with Pensioners FM during a courtesy visit on the General Manager of the Station, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu.
Dr. Agbeniyi, who expressed sadness over the inability of Nigerians in Diaspora to vote in Nigeria Elections, said they are losing confidence in the governance of the country.
“Certainly, people in Diaspora are very interested in what is going to be the outcome of 2023 election. The reason being that the situation in Nigeria currently is nothing to write home about. People are frustrated; people have been disappointed with the governance. So we are very interested in seeing good governance, hence, the outcome of 2023 election is of paramount to people in Diaspora”
Dr. Agbeniyi also stressed the importance of the 2023 general election and the role of Nigerians Nigerians in Diaspora.
“I personally asked Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa who is the Chairperson Nigerians in Diaspora the question of Diasporas voting and the answer she gave me is that Nigeria is not at the stage of allowing people in Diaspora to vote. We weren’t happy with that response, because we want to be part of the system; we want to be part of the people that decide on whom to govern us. She said the process of allowing Diasporas to vote is not as easy as we think”
Dr. Agbeniyi however, urged the Diasporans to join hands in demanding their participation in the forth-coming 2023 election.
In the meantime, AYIDSA President, Dr. Olusola has also announced the Appointment of Dr. Tiamiyu as “Media consultant” to the Association of Yorubas in Diaspora, South Africa.
Dr. Agbeniyi added that, the Association considered Dr. Tiamiyu worthy because of his professionalism and dedication to the promotion of Yoruba Cultural Values.
Responding, Dr Tiamiyu thanked AYIDSA for the privilege and promised to give the new task his best.
