The Lagos State Government has extended the ban on commercial motorcycles, known as Okada, to four additional council areas.
Frederic Oladeinde, Transportation Commissioner, announced the move during a press conference in Lagos on Thursday.
He explained that the extension became necessary after a review of the impact of a similar ban in six local government areas.
“Based on the apparent positive impact of the ban and the resolution of the Stakeholders’ forum,” the commissioner explained, “Mr. Governor has approved the ban of Okada in another four (4) LGs and their respective five (5) LCDAs for the 2nd Phase of the total ban, in addition to the ongoing ban in the six (6) LGs and their respective LCDAs.” He noted.
According to Frederic Oladeinde, the affected council areas and LCDAs are Kosofe Local Government, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Mushin Local Government and Shomolu Local Government.
The Commissioner gave assurance to residents of Lagos that the government has put in place measures to mitigate the impact of the most recent ban on Okada in the state.
He maintained that the development was in the best interest of the residents as it would reduce accident and crime in Lagos.
