Justices of Peace, JP, are Ambassadors of Peace at the grassroots, expected to familiarise themselves with their immediate neighbourhood, settle rifts, foster unity and help to resolve conflicts using their competences and native Intelligence.
One of the new Justices of Peace recently sworn- in in Oyo State, Mr Israel Taiwo, JP, made this known in an interview with Pensioners FM Correspondent.
Mr Taiwo also described the duties of JPs is to assist the state government in the dispensation of justice and maintenance of peace and tranquility in their communities and environs.
The Justice of Peace said that the powers of a Justice of Peace cover preservation of peace, prevention of violence, and disperse all forms of disordering and unlawful assemblies.
Mr Taiwo promised to support the efforts of government and security agencies in promoting peace and delivery of untainted justice in his area in particular and Oyo State in general.
The Awe born justice of Peace also advised his other colleagues to see their appointment as a great calling toward the promotion of rule of law and good governance in their communities and the state.
