Following the salaries of its members and those of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) who embarked on strike last year, the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has appealed to the Federal Government.

CONUA National President, Niyi Sunmonu, made the appeal while addressing journalists at the maiden National Executive Council meeting of the Union in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The NEC meeting drew participants from 15 federal and state universities while 11 universities were absent due to logistics.

After the deliberations, Sunmonu urged the government to pay the eight-month salaries of university lecturers in 2022.

The Union had dissociated itself from the eight months industrial action of ASUU last year.

The President said it will be unjust for the Federal Government to apply a ‘No work No pay’ policy on members.
