A two- time member of the House of Representatives and former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Jerry Ugokwe has said that there is an urgent need for autonomy for local governments in the country.

Speaking on a monitored Programme, Ambassador Ugokwe expressed the belief that local government autonomy would aid infrastructural development in the rural communities and bring effective services delivery to the masses.

“The autonomy will also grant financial and administrative powers to local government and allow them perform their task without political affiliation or sentiments”.

Ambassador Ugokwe advised State Governors and the Houses of Assembly not to delay the autonomy of local government.
