Representatives of various political parties have urged political gladiators to desist from character assassination during their campaigns, rather focus on issue based engagement ahead of 2023 elections.
They said this on Pensioners FM Current Affairs Programme, Voice of Liberation.
Special Assistant to Honourable Ajibola Muraina, representing Ibarapa and Ido in the House of Representatives, Mr Olubunmi Sodipo, said some candidates are focusing on issue based campaigns, while some are not.
‘Erection of billboards are part of campaigns, but some people have been destroying billboards of some political parties that should not be happening in a civilised society.’
Also speaking, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Comrade Wole Abisoye, said campaigns should be about what candidates have for the people and not personal vendetta.
‘Campaigns should be issue based, what you have for the country, how you can solve the present situations facing the country.’
On his part, Candidate for Oyo Assembly on the platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP, Honourable Oluwagbemi Abioye, agreed that campaigns so far have been issue based.
‘Campaigns have been issue based, as some candidates have been selling their plans to the people.’
Mr Sodipo, Comrade Abisoye and Honourable Abioye, charged all political candidates in the 2023 general election to stop their tantrums, focus on how to make the country conducive for citizens, while urging citizens against going for parties, but personalities that can bring change.
