As preparation for the rainy season planting steps up in Oyo State, farmers in Oyo and neighboring villages want government assurance on protection of their lives and crops to avert a repeat of losses they suffered last year.

The farmers who spoke with the media at Fasola, Oyo West Local Government also called for timely provision of agro inputs as well as rehabilitation of farm roads to facilitate easy movement.

One of the farmers, Mrs. Janet Adetayo urged government to make farming more attractive to women as many of them are now interested in mechanized farming and agro processing.

Since COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted fresh admission into tertiary institutions in the country, Mrs. Adetayo also advised school leavers and other youths to participate in the upcoming planting season to boost food security.
