An industrial action declared by the Enugu State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has paralyzed activities in public primary schools in the state.
Reports say that the union ordered the indefinite strike with effect from Monday, the 9th of May in a circular. The circular was signed by the state chairman and secretary, Messrs Theophilus Nweke and Macs Nnaji.
The action was to protest the state government’s alleged unwillingness to implement the N30,000 minimum wage in primary schools.
It was gathered that the strike, now in its third day, is enjoying total compliance by teachers.
