Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Oyo State, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, is of the view that consensus choice of candidates is good for democracy if the Principles of Fairness and Equity are applied.

Speaking on Pensioners FM’s Political Programme, The Searchlight, Engr. Olatunji said though the party in the State had opted for consensus arrangement ahead of the 2023 General Election, those who are not satisfied could subject themselves to Primaries.

“Consensus arrangement is enshrined in the New Electoral Act and there is nothing unconstitutional if our Party adopts it. The only thing is that it has to follow due process. However, here in Oyo PDP, where we realise that consensus arrangement is not working, we go for Primaries. Luckily our party’s primaries come up on the 12 of next Month.”

Engr. Olatunji, who stepped down for Governor Seyi Makinde’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Mojeed Mogbojubola, as candidate for Oluyole Federal Constituency Election, denied insinuations that Governor Seyi Makinde was imposing candidates of his choice on members of the party.

“The Governor has the right to support Candidates of his choice. The truth is, it is not every Candidate the Governor Supports that eventually emerges, even in a Consensus arrangement. If the Governor nominates someone and majority of Members kick against it, he cannot go ahead to impose his will. All Governor Makinde wants to achieve is a smooth and less stressful process for the Party.”

On the issue of throwing the PDP presidential ticket open, Engr Olatunji asked Nigerians to wait for the position of the National Working Committee of the party.
