President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday arrived in Ebonyi State on a two-day visit amid tight security.
Buhari touched down at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu from where he proceeded to Uburu in the Ohanzara local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The president’s jet arrived in Enugu around 10:30 pm.
He was received by Enugu State’s governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his Ebonyi counterpart, David Umahi and other government officials.
Also, the president is expected to inspect the work ongoing at the international airport in Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, streets in the capital city wore new looks with different security personnel seen at strategic locations.
It was observed that among the security personnel on guard are soldiers, policemen and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel.
Some residents, who spoke with journalists in Abakaliki, said they looked forward to the Presidential visit to the State.
Mr Eugene Nwangele described the visit as relevant, especially as stakeholders in the Southeast zone were expected to present issues that bother the zone and country at large to Buhari.
Nwangele said the visit would also give the people of the state in particular and the Southeast, in general, a sense of recognition and belonging.
Mr Chijioke Ama commended the landmark projects and transformational policies that had taken place in the state in the last few years.
“Yes, Ebonyi is fast developing, I thank the President for visiting us,” Ama said.
Mrs Juliet Egbo, a petty trader said she had started experiencing high patronage in her business as more residents come out to welcome Buhari.
Reports say various groups, youths and women are in their colourful attires in different streets ready to welcome the president to the state.
Meanwhile, the president has inaugurated the 5 kilometres dual carriage airport road and the airport’s Presidential Lounge, Onueke, ebonyi state.
He also inaugurated a flyover at King David University of Medical Sciences Uburu and dualized Uburu – Mpu road.
The president who is on a two-day official visit to the state is accompanied by Governor of the state, David Umahi , among other top government officials
Other projects to be inaugurated by the president while in Abakaliki include new Government House, Centenary City and reconstructed St. Margaret Umahi International Market complex, Abakaliki.
The president will also inaugurate the Aisha Buhari Wife of Governor’s Office Complex, Akanu Ibiam Lodge, new Governor’s Lodge, and Ebonyi House.
