Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON, has expressed its displeasure, over what it called the insensitive and provocative Easter celebration advertisement by a new generation bank ‘Sterling Bank Plc’ comparing the resurrection of Jesus Christ to Agege Bread.

In a statement by its Registrar and Chief Executive, Olalekan Fadolapo, the Advertising Regulatory Body described the advert as distasteful and failed to conform to the prevailing laws of the federation as well as code of ethics of Adverting in Nigeria.

The statement further said that APCON will take appropriate actions to ensure that erring bank is sanctioned for the offensive advertisement.

APCON also warned that advertisement must always be submitted to the body for approval by its advertising standard panel, AFP, statutorily saddled with the responsibility of ensuring conforming with the prevailing laws and code of ethics of Advertising in Nigeria.
