Another set of teachers in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have converged on the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, to throw their weight behind the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde. They are teachers from zones three and four who said they were there to appreciate the governor whom they said has since the inception of his administration, shown keen interest in the welfare of workers in the state.
One of the teachers, Dr Bola Falope, who spoke with Pensioners’ FM, said the rally was organized to thank the governor for the promotion of teachers.
“We are doing the rally for our Governor to appreciate what he has done for us teachers, everything he has done for us, the promotion to level 17 has not been done before. He is the one that did the one that did it for us and even the appointment of the new teachers, 5000 teachers. So we are doing this rally. It is not a campaign, we are doing it to appreciate him and show our love for him”
Another teacher, Mrs Aminat Arogundade, also told our correspondent that the governor deserved all the support he is getting from teachers over his kind gesture to them.
“Nobody forced us, we came on our own, and you can see they are not writing anybody’s name from this school or you are from that school. It is just to show our appreciation”
Responding, Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, who also graced the event, urged teachers to get their Permanent Voters Cards so as to be eligible to vote.
I want to first commend the entire teachers in Oyo zone 1 – 14 who came today. It shows that this people really appreciate good things and I want them to continue giving their support and the only way they can do that is to first of all make sure they all have their PVC and they embark on massive mobilization of other people to have their PVC”
Recall that on Monday, zones one and two of teachers in Ibadan also held a similar rally for Governor Makinde.
