Dr. Abel Adeleke, a former colleague and former Head, Department of Music Technology, The Polytechnic Ibadan, has described the late Dr Wole Adetiran as a music icon, whose death was a great loss to Nigeria and the NYSC.
Dr Adeleke who spoke with Pensioners’ FM noted that whenever the NYSC anthem is sung, it will bring back memories of the late Adetiran.
Speaking further, Dr Adeleke said the anthem composed by the deceased has made a huge impact on the scheme, which has remained a veritable tool for national development, with corps members strongly represented in every major strata of the economy.
“I believe that the whole World will continue to remember as long as they sing that song, the NYSC Anthem”
Also speaking, the younger brother to the deceased, Mr Segun Adetiran, said his brother’s death came to him as a shock, describing him as a good man.
“I lived with him and within that time, I can easily say he is a man of integrity. He is a very loyal man. He is very good. Actually, he was sick before but I didn’t even expect that he will die?
Mr Adetiran, a corps member in 1984, had composed the popular NYSC anthem while serving at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, where he also served as the Head of Music Department between 2003 and 2007 before his retirement from the institution in 2008.
Dr. Adetiran the composer of the NYSC Anthem, Mr Wole Adetiran passed on last night at his Ibafo home in Ogun State at the age of 74.
