Head, Publicity Unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Oyo State, Mr Olayiwola Awolowo, has charged political parties to comply with rules guiding the conduct of campaign in the state.
He gave the charge while speaking on Pensioners FM midweek political programme, The Searchlight.
Mr Awolowo said there are sanctions for erring political parties who default in the rules laid down by the commission as stipulated by the 2022 Electoral Act.
Awolowo said’ Any Political party that engages in thuggery would be sanctioned, that is would pay some certain amount of money or the aspirant involved would be imprisoned’
Mr Awolowo expressed worry that some registrants were yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Card, PVC, from the commission, urging them not to hesitate to get their cards to enable them exercise their franchise.
Mr Awolowo said ‘ The electorate must ensure collection of their PVC’s for proper identification to avoid multiple registration’
Mr Awolowo urged the media to be objective in its election reportage rather than involving in partisanship.
